I am a big fan of Tom Hanks who is one of the most awarded Hollywood stars up until today. I have watched a number of his performances in the Big Screen like the Da Vinci Code, The Polar Express, Apollo 13, Forrest Gump and many more. Yesterday, I watch Philadelphia which is one movie where he got a Best Actor award. This movie was a drama film which was out on 1993 and was inspired by a true story.

I am very fascinated and moved as well by the plot of the movie concerning the fight of a homosexual who had AIDS against discrimination. Andrew Beckett, who was played by Toma Hanks, was a lawyer who had graduated from a known university and was employed by the largest corporate firm in Philadelphia. He was very brilliant and skillful in his profession and was totally and secretly gay and had gotten a dreadful disease known as AIDS. His employer, Jason Wheeler, is a prejudiced men who dread people who are homosexuals and have the disease. So when someone from the firm sabotage his work, Andy was wrongfully fired and had taken the counsel of Joe Miller (played by Denzel Washington). They have fought against the big law firm in the courtroom and against society outside. In the end, the jury had reached a verdict in Andy’s behalf and considered the action of the law firm as unlawful and discriminatory. After the verdict had been made, Andy died in the hospital bed with his lifetime partner Miguel Alvarez (Antonio Banderas) at his side. The movie end up the Beckett’s home with the movie playing the childhood of Andy.

The movie Philadelphia had touch me in the core. It had obviously spoken about the prejudiced discrimination of society against homosexuals and the seriously ill people infected by AIDS. These people had suffered the wrongful notions of the society. All of us are equal and we have the same rights, no matter what gender and who we are. This film is an elightenment and should be watch by all of us and should reflect from it.
