Tony Awards 2008 Nominations
The nominees for Tony Awards have been revealed. “In the Heights,” a lively snapshot of Latino life in Upper Manhattan, received 13 nominations on Tuesday, more than any other show.
“South Pacific” took 11 nominations. It is a lush, lavish revival of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s. It was followed by “Sunday in the Park With George” with nine. Three shows received seven nominations: “August: Osage County,” “Passing Strange” and the revival of “Gypsy.”
“Heights” was nominated for best musical along with “Passing Strange,” the story of one man’s journey through sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll; “Cry-Baby,” a raunchy ’50s teenage romance based on the John Waters film; and “Xanadu,” a spoof of the ’80s disco movie musical.
“August: Osage County,” already the winner of the Pulitzer Prize for drama, was nominated for best play along with Conor McPherson’s “The Seafarer,” Tom Stoppard’s “Rock ‘n’ Roll” and “The 39 Steps” by Patrick Barlow.
The most awaited world premiere of the movie “Sex and the City” was viewed in London Monday night. Sarah Jessica Parker, and the Sex casts have shown their usual glamorous outfits on the red carpet of their movie’s world premiere. The movie will be showed in the US on the 30th of May which means that Americans would have to bear a longer wait before watching one of Americas most beloved TV show in the big screen.

Iron Man leads the weekend box office with more than a hundred million in theater sales at the United States only. The Marvel Comics adaptation, starring Robert Downey Jr. as the guy in the metal suit, hauled in $100.7 million during its opening weekend and $104.2 million since debuting Thursday night, the second-best premiere ever for a nonsequel, according to studio estimates Sunday. It garnered more than 96.7 million dollars from overseas making it gross more than 200 million worldwide.
Gary Dourdan star of the well known crime television series “CSI” was arrested in Palm Springs on suspicion of possessing heroin, cocaine, ecstasy, and prescription drugs on Monday, April 28, 2008. He was asleep in his car at 5:21 in the morning when law enforcement approached his vehicle and arrested him. Dourdan was taken to the Palm Springs jail and was later bailed out on $5,000.
He was born Gary Robert Dourdan in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States last December 11, 1966. He is now 41 years old. He is better known for portraying Warrick Brown on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. Dourdan is also a model for Marithe and Francois Girbaud. He has a small part in the 2007 film Perfect Stranger, starred in the film Alien: Resurrection, had a bit part in the TV series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman and many more.
His contract with the TV Series CSI: Crime Scene Investigation is set to expire this May and there are reports that his eight year acting in the series will not be renewed.
Lots of people had been questioning why did Carly Smithson get the low down on American Idol. Maybe its because of her song choice.
This week Carly Smithson performed the song “Superstar” from “Jesus Christ Superstar” from the 70s rock opera. It was composed by the renowned Andrew Lloyd Weber. Lots of Christians have criticize this song because its questioning the divinity of Jesus Christ. Christians also viewed the opera as blasphemy.
The New York Times suggested on their paper that the song Carly Smithson performed was the reason whe was voted out. Online sites especially on the American Idol websitem lots of fans predicted that Smithson will be voted out because of her choice of song which eventually came true.

CBS is axing its new reality show “Secret Talents of the Stars” after only one episode. The secret talents of celebrities will stay hidden. Polls said that only 4.6 million people watch the show and as the show continued thousands switched channels. “Star Trek” actol George Takei is one of the few stars who revealed their hidden talents. He sung “On the Road Again”. Other stars includes Clint Black doing stand up comedy and Mya tap danced. And that’s the only episode that this show will had its fame. CBS officials say news programming is expected as a temporary replacement.
Starbucks is trying to place their business back on track. Today, Tuesday April 8, 2008 Starbucks has a free coffee promotion to launch its new “everyday” brew, in an attempt to boost sales.
Starbucks will promote a new brew called Pike Place Roast. According to, Chairman and CEO Howard Schultz, Pike Place Roast has a bold flavor, smooth finish and “subtle, rich flavors of cocoa and toasted nuts.” The product will be freshly roasted, hand-scooped, freshly ground and brewed in small batches that sit for no longer than 30 minutes.
American Idol 7 cuts another contestant. This time it is Ramiele Malubay, a Filipina who had grown up in the States. The judges said that her performance this week was very forgettable and the song was again another wrong choice for her. Well, this week is Dolly Parton week, where the Idol contestants have been coached by singer Dolly Parton to sing her songs. Ramiele sung “Do I Ever Cross Your Mind” who garnered the lowest votes from America this week.
Ramiele was joined by Kristy Lee Cook and Brooke White in the bottom three. The eight remaining Idol hopefuls include: Jason Castro, 20; early fan favorite David Archuleta, 17; emerging “Idol” star David Cook, 25; Michael Johns, 29; Syesha Mercado, 21, and Carly Smithson, 24.
